What is it?

This is a visual inspection of cleaned/disinfected instruments to check that there are no signs of soiling or staining prior to sterilisation.

If an instrument is not clean it cannot be sterilised.

Dirty instruments that are processed through a sterilisation cycle will not be sterile at the end of the decontamination process.

A record must be kept of each visual inspection as evidence.

Inspect load items for signs of contamination after the cleaning process using suitable illumination.

Load items should visually clean from contamination after the cleaning process.

The test is a fail if contamination can been seen on any part of the processed loads.
